Adjustable or Fitted: Which Suits Your Team?

Fitted visors do exist, but they’re far less common and really only worth considering for a single individual who already knows their exact size, such as a golf pro or a performer. Getting the Fit Right

Even with an adjustable strap, fit matters more than people expect. A visor that’s too loose will slide down over the eyebrows during activity, and one that’s too tight will leave a red mark and a headache by lunchtime. A few quick pointers:

• The headband should sit level, roughly two centimetres above the eyebrows, not resting directly on them.
• Adjust the strap so it’s snug but you can still slip one finger underneath comfortably.
• For active sports use, tighten it slightly more than you would for casual wear, since movement and sweat can loosen the fit through the day.
• If you’re ordering for a group with a wide age range, such as a school event or family day, check whether a kids specific size is available rather than assuming the adult adjustable range will shrink down far enough.

Keeping the Shape Over Time

The peak is the part that takes the most abuse. It gets rolled up in bags, sat on in cars, and bent to fit into lockers. Once a peak loses its curve or gets creased, it’s very hard to bring back. A few habits go a long way:

• Store visors flat or hanging by the strap, not squashed under other gear.
• Avoid folding the peak in half. If it needs to travel in a bag, lay it flat on top of soft items rather than jamming it into a side pocket.
• Keep it out of direct heat sources like a car dashboard in summer, which can warp the peak material and fade embroidery over time.

Washing Embroidered Visors the Right Way

Because a visor is mostly headband and peak rather than a full fabric crown, it’s actually one of the easier pieces of headwear to keep clean, provided you avoid the washing machine. Machine washing tends to warp the peak and can loosen embroidery stitching over repeated cycles.

Instead, spot clean with a soft cloth, a small amount of mild detergent and cool water, working gently around any embroidered logo rather than scrubbing across it. For sweat build up along the headband, a slightly damp cloth with a touch of bicarb soda works well before a final wipe with clean water. Always air dry away from direct sun or direct heat, and never wring the peak. Where Visors Fall Short, and What to Pair Them With

It’s worth being upfront that visors have one obvious gap: there’s no coverage on top of the head. For anyone spending long hours fully exposed to the sun, whether that’s outdoor event staff, tradies or sports officials, a visor alone isn’t enough sun protection. In those cases we’d usually recommend a UPF rated hat or a wide brim hat for the bulk of the day, with visors kept for shorter, high intensity periods like sport, service counters under awnings, or indoor to outdoor roles where full crown coverage isn’t practical.
