Our recycled Planet Positive range is made using recycled fibres, much of it sourced through Atlantis, our Italian eco headwear partner known for genuinely sustainable manufacturing rather than surface level green claims. The resulting fabric tends to have a slightly different hand feel and weave density compared with standard poly cotton twill. It is a little more textured in places, and the weave can vary subtly between production runs depending on the recycled fibre blend used.
None of this makes the fabric harder to work with. It simply means the decoration method needs to suit the surface, rather than the other way around. A technique that sits beautifully on a smooth, tightly woven cap might behave quite differently on a textured recycled weave, and that is worth knowing before you commit to an order of several hundred caps.
Embroidery remains our most requested decoration for a good reason. It is durable, it holds its shape through repeated washing and sun exposure, and it has a tactile, premium feel that suits an eco positioned brand well. On the Planet Positive range specifically, standard embroidery performs strongly on simple logos, text and icons, because the stitch sits proud of the fabric and does not rely on the base weave being perfectly flat.
Where it pays to be a little careful is with very fine detail or tiny text. Because the recycled weave has slightly more texture than standard twill, extremely fine embroidery stitches can occasionally lose a touch of crispness. Our recommendation for logos with small text or intricate linework is to either simplify the design slightly for headwear, or step up to 3D embroidery on the bolder elements, which adds a raised foam backing that gives the logo more definition and presence even on a textured surface.
Screen printing works well on the Planet Positive range for logos with larger blocks of colour or photographic style detail that embroidery cannot easily replicate. The main thing to plan for is placement. Printing sits flat against the fabric, so it shows off the recycled weave’s natural texture more than embroidery does, which some brands actually like because it reinforces the eco story rather than hiding it.
Heat seal transfer is a good option when you need a very precise, multi coloured logo without the setup cost of screen printing, particularly for smaller runs. It applies cleanly to the recycled fabric, though as with any heat applied decoration, we always recommend checking care instructions with your team, since high heat washing or drying can shorten the life of any heat sealed transfer over time, regardless of the cap style underneath it.
For brands that want a raised, dimensional badge look without full embroidery coverage, woven badges and supa badges (in matt or gloss finish) are worth considering. These are decorated separately then applied to the cap, which means the badge itself is always crisp and consistent, regardless of the base fabric’s texture. This can be a smart choice for logos with fine detail, gradients or multiple small text elements that would be difficult to embroider directly onto a textured recycled weave.
Supa etch, our laser etched option, tends to suit smoother surfaced caps rather than the more textured recycled weave, so if you are set on an etched look we would usually steer you towards a different fabric in our range and reserve Planet Positive for embroidery, print or badge work instead.
